Maintaining the Superiority of NYC's Drinking Water - the Croton Reservoir
Posted By JHitz in Planning and Management
New York City is world-renowned for its clean and delicious drinking water. The NYC watershed delivers roughly 1.2 billion gallons of water each day to 8 million NYC residents and 1 million residents of Westchester, Putnam, Orange and Ulster Counties. The watershed's forests, swamps and soils act as natural filters, removing pollutants, and making NYC's drinking water supply the largest unfiltered system in the U.S. But in 2013, the Croton Water Filtration Plant, currently under construction in the Bronx, will begin filtering 1.2 million cubic meters or 10% of New York's water supply each day. http://blogs.ei.columbia.edu -
